Advance Office Systems, Inc. Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Hartford/New Haven, CONN.  - Flashback 1977: Jimmy Carter touted his proposed energy plan. Star Wars exploded in theatres. Studio 54 opened. And albums like Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours forever changed the way that “40-somethings” remember their youth.

In Connecticut, Nutmeg Typewriter Services opened on April 1, 1977, and a small team of employees sold and serviced typewriters mostly in New Haven and on the Connecticut shoreline. This year, the company now known as Advanced Office Systems, Inc., (AOS) celebrates not only its 30th Anniversary, but also a notable achievement as one of the three oldest Apple dealers in the country and a strong reputation for providing effective I/T hardware and software solutions that include other major brands such as Dell, Hewlett –Packard/Compaq, IBM and more.

According to Rich Sgueglia, executive vice president of Advanced Office Systems, the changes in information technology in the early 1980s significantly shaped the future and direction of his business.

“The Apple computer catapulted us into the computer industry, and it challenged every assumption we had about storing and processing information.  It changed the way we did business on every level,” said Sgueglia.  “We have continued to grow and evolve significantly since then, and as a result, we’re able to provide customers with an even greater array of information technology solutions.”  These solutions range from Internet and network security consulting and services, to remote access and management of information.

In addition to being an authorized Apple dealer, the company also is an authorized dealer of IBM, Hewlett Packard/Compaq computers and a Dell Value-Added Reseller (VAR) and Microsoft Gold Certified Partner.

Sgueglia believes that the company’s ability to thrive in a rapidly changing technological environment is the result of a relentless commitment to navigating new technology and helping customers understand how they can benefit from this technology.

“These days especially, customers don’t have the time to research and understand all of the intricacies of information technology,” said Sgueglia.  “That’s where we come in.  We function as a comprehensive ‘help desk’ for them.”
